“Pek” Gunn, Tennessee Poet Laureate
“Pek” Gunn was also known more formally as Richard M. Gunn. He was a folklorist and humorist, as well as the lyricist and composer of the Tennessee State Bicentennial March. “Pek” Gunn actually qualifies as an official state symbol himself, since he served as the Tennessee Poet Laureate from 1971-1994.
